Julian Fałat (1853–1929) – an artist of the Young Poland movement, representative of landscape and genre painting. Graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
Between 1886–1895, employed as a teacher at the court of Emperor Wilhelm II, then the headmaster and rector of the School of Fine Arts in Kraków. At first, his paintings followed Realism, providing an in-depth insight into everyday life, the religiousness of peasants, and hunting scenes. Then, Fałat’s art steered towards Impressionism and the related spontaneity of creation, which was reflected in his landscape paintings. His famous works include, e.g. Kraków in the Morning (1897), Winter Landscape (1891) and Landscape from Bystra (1919).
