Władysław Ślewiński (1856–1918) — a painter, representative of post-impressionism. From 1888, he stayed in Paris, where he studied and mingled with local artists. He presented his works in a number of European cities, e.g. Lviv, Munich and Vienna. His art, often inspired by Paul Gauguin’s painting style, is characterised by the simplicity of essential features of objects and landscapes achieved by means of an original imaging form. Known for such paintings as “Mask and Books” (ca. 1897), “Winter Mountain Landscape” (ca. 1908), and “Country Girl in a Yellow Scarf” (ca. 1907).
