Jan Stanisławski — one of the key representatives of Polish symbolic painting, father of the so-called “Kraków school of landscape art”. He mastered his painting skills in Paris, and travelled to Italy, Spain and Germany. He appreciated close contact with nature, so he chose to paint in the outdoors rather than in a studio. Most of his works were natural landscapes, e.g. “Beehives in the Ukraine” (1895), “Dnieper” (1903) or “Landscape with Windmills” (1905). The introduction to the album featuring the artist’s most important pieces was written by Urszula Kozakowska-Zaucha, an art historian and keeper of the National Museum in Kraków.
