Jerzy Nowosielski — an accomplished painter and draughtsman. From early years, he was fascinated by the Byzantine Rite, so a lot of his works reveal the influence of icon painting techniques. He was an author of hundreds of paintings, graphics, drawings, as well as polychromies in Orthodox and Catholic churches. The artist focused on an array of topics, starting from sacred art to genre scenes and abstractions. Author of a new painting category — the “secular icon”. His most famous works include: Battle of Addis Ababa (1947), Swimmers (1953), Cello Player (1958), Secret of the Engaged Couple(1962), Villa dei Misteri (1975), Girls on a Ship (1981), andTibetan Beach (1983).
