Piotr Michałowski — painter and draughtsman, the key representative of Romanticism in Polish 19th-century art, as well as a public officer and social activist. He mastered his painting skills during numerous travels across Europe. In his paintings, he presented mainly horses, horse carts, and historical motifs, making sure they are realistic. His most famous pieces include, e.g. “Amazon” (ca. 1835), “Bolesław the Brave Entering Kiev” (ca. 1837) or “Somosierra” (ca. 1845). The introduction to the album was written by art historian Anna Zeńczak.
