Ferdynand Ruszczyc (1870–1936) – painter, graphic designer, and draughtsman, leader of symbolism in the art of Young Poland. Initially, at the urging of his father Edward, he enrolled in a law course in Saint Petersburg, but he quickly gave it up in favour of studying at the local Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1897. At that time he made several trips abroad, including to France, Germany, and Italy, during which he improved his painting skills. His works feature mostly landscapes, which he depicted with the use of strong, vivid colours. His most prominent works include, among others, Earth (1898), Last Snow (1898–1899), Nec Mergitur (1904–1905).
