Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio is considered one of the most outstanding baroque artists ever. His art revolutionised the existing painting with the introduction of chiaroscuro, which emphasised the drama and realism of the representations. The artist intentionally abandoned the cult of beauty pervading the contemporary painting, and instead highlighted the imperfections of the figures in his works.

Ferdynand Ruszczyc (1870–1936) – painter, graphic designer, and draughtsman, leader of symbolism in the art of Young Poland. Initially, at the urging of his father Edward, he enrolled in a law course in Saint Petersburg, but he quickly gave it up in favour of studying at the local Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1897.

Anthony van Dyck is – like Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens – among the most prominent artists of the golden age of Flemish painting.

Leon Wyczółkowski – a distinguished painter, graphic artist and drawer from the Młoda Polska (Young Poland) period. Representative of the realist trend in Polish art. He painted both landscapes and city representations. Wyczółkowski also achieved mastery in the art of portraits. He created original artwork, becoming one of the pioneers of this discipline in Poland.

Wojciech Kossak — son of Juliusz Kossak; a painter, illustrator and the main representative of history painting. He studied at the Kraków School of Fine Arts and the Munich academy; later, he mastered his craft in Paris.
