Paul Peter Rubens is among the most famous Flemish painters in the world. His outstanding gift, laboriousness, diplomacy and organizational skills earned him fame, appreciation and money during his lifetime. Rubens’ art fascinated the audiences during the painter’s time, and now it has become twice as lustrous and inspires generations of artists. The many topics based on Bible motifs and mythology, and the abundance of shapes and colours are the hallmarks of this amazing artist. Rubens was a guest at all European courts, travelling as a diplomat and in the meantime creating exquisite portraits of e.g. Louis XIII, Anne of Austria or Philip IV of Spain. Rubens created a modern studio at his home in Antwerp, visited by famous painters, such as Antoon van Dyck and Jan Brueghel.
