Titian, born Tiziano Vecellio, is a representative of the Venetian School of Italian Renaissance painting. The term “Titian”, referring to brownish-orange hair often depicted by the artist, was derived from his name. His works are characterised by colour harmony and intensive composition movement of a balanced Renaissance nature. Later, his art combined more painting freedom with clear chiaroscuro. The key elements in his output are mythological paintings, in particular images of Venus, which made the artist famous. His portraits are also much appreciated. Titian’s art has been a model and inspiration for many generations of artists, regardless of the period they lived in and the style they preferred.
