The new mini-album in the “Painting” series presents the artistic output of Witold Wojtkiewicz, an accomplished painter, draughtsman, and graphic designer from the Young Poland period, representative of symbolism and early expressionism, also considered the pioneer of surrealism. As a painter, Wojtkiewicz developed a highly original lyrical, symbolic, fantastic, melancholic, but also ironic style, best exemplified in such painting series as: “Children’s Poses”, “Tragicomic Sketches”, and “Ceremonies”. His art was fascinating e.g. to André Gide, who organised an exhibition of Wojtkiewicz’s works in Paris in 1907. Tadeusz Kantor deemed him the most original Polish 20th-century painter.
The book contains nearly sixty most famous works of the artist, as well as an introduction to his art by Stefania Krzysztofowicz-Kozakowska.
