Jerzy Duda-Gracz is one the most famous modern Polish artists. In his art he often commented on the political and social reality, balancing between grotesque, irony, and satire on the one hand, and sentimentalism and nostalgia on the other. He created a painting series, of which the best known are Motifs, Polish Portraits, and Jurassic Images. The artist’s works present caricatures of figures in the tragic world, inspiring strong emotions. In an apt and unambiguous way they uncover human faults, such as hypocrisy, boorishness, laziness and intolerance. In the paintings we can also see a longing for the world that is passing by, images from childhood, memories cherished religiously and recreated on canvas.
