Volume three of The Book of World Dragons by Bartłomiej Grzegorz Sala this time features dragons and serpent-like beasts from tales and legends from non-European cultures. In his new book, the author, a historian and ethnologist, introduces draconic creatures from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Arab world, Muslim India and Persia, as well as Tibet and South-East Asia. It is a gripping and thorough book, which not only teaches the readers about lesser-known dragons and serpent-like monsters, but also enables them to learn more about the beliefs from far-away continents. The kind-hearted gargantuan snake Ayida-Weddo, the serpent deity Mukiti, the seven-headed and seven-tailed snake Pembe Mirui, Sindbad the Sailor’s giant snakes, the king of snakes Shahmaran, the magical black snake Chaste Chamar, the ruler of ninety-nine fortresses – mighty snake Vritra, the fire-spitting Naga Besukih, and the Himalayan dragon Druk are just a handful of the one hundred vividly described creatures. The most interesting beings were illustrated by Mikita Rasolka, who skilfully depicted their fascinating, untamed nature.
