The third, latest and also last part of our outstandingly popular documentary series on the subject of the Bieszczady Mountains written by Krzysztof Potaczała features a collection of stories spanning the years from the 1970-80s, with some reaching beyond the times of the former Polish People’s Republic. It is stories such as these that have made the Bieszczady a cult destination for many generations of Polish freedom-seeking non-conformists. Called forth out of the memory of witnesses and slightly yellowed pages of historical accounts, the twelve delectably down-to-earth, highly entertaining stories include those of the Cowboy Clan, the Tramps of Baligrod, the barbed wire border between Poland and the former USSR, guarded with “the hammer and the sickle”, of convicts felling trees, soldiers building the impossible narrow gauge railway, the lone roamings of the bison Pulpit, or the Rainbow Family Stop in Tworylne, and enable us to conjure up, once again, the Bieszczady as they used to be – wild and free.
