1940s Warsaw, the first volume of a new series FOTO RETRO by Wydawnictwo Bosz, is the result of cooperation with the National Digital Archives. This is a unique illustrated book that overcomes stereotypes and tells the story of the capital of Poland in pictures. The narration is comprised of unknown photographs obtained from the collections of the National Digital Archives and divided into five chapters, each having its own leitmotif. The chapters: Returns, Reconstruction, City in Motion, Starting Anew, Life provide a unique history lesson. 1940s Warsaw contains several hundred previously unpublished photographs with commentary. It’s a time travel of sorts that allows one to get to know the postwar Warsaw, feel its strength, spontaneity and atmosphere and also almost touch the everyday life of the common-uncommon heroes of the 1940s.
