Zdzisław Beksiński was a versatile artist. Painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography – at these five art genres he had been most successful and they had earned him fame. However, he had one more passion perhaps even his avid fans hardly know about: in the 1960s he had tried his hand at writing, while continuing to work as an artist. Over an intensely creative period lasting nearly two years he had written 40 short stories, or fragments of stories, which he later bundled together and put away, never to give them a second look.
Half a century later these incredible – in every sense of the word - stories have finally been published. Onirism, surrealism, pastiches of crime stories and dystopian fiction, attempts at television and radio plays, confessional and digressional literature, the humorous juxtaposed with the macabre – the book truly is a journey through the numerous popular literary genres and trends of the mid-20th century. A must-have for connoisseurs of Zbigniew Beksiński’s talent and lovers of evocative writing.
