Nikifor (Epifaniusz Drowniak) is a unique and exceptional artist in the history of Polish naive art. The album presents the best works created by the artist – lauding the beauty of the Beskid Mountains – throughout his entire career. They include over 120 coloured reproductions of paintings by the Master of Krynica, such as all of the key thematic series typical for his art, as well as a dozen photographs of himself from the 1920s to the 60s. The monograph contains an extensive introduction by Zbigniew Wolanin, the author of the permanent exhibition in the Nikifor Museum in Krynica-Zdrój and a number of Nikifor’s exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
„Nikifor is one of the most fascinating figures of 20th-century European art. The man, who spent his childhood in extreme poverty, towards the end of his life had the honour of exhibiting his paintings in prestigious galleries all around the world. He won international renown, his art was showcased next to the most outstanding contemporary Polish artists, such as Jerzy Nowosielski, Tadeusz Brzozowski, Jan Lebenstein and others. Today, more than fifty years after his death, Nikifor still remains controversial and mysterious.” (from the intro.)
