This title is not a mistake! Adam Hanuszkiewicz, an outstanding actor and director, one of the greatest personalities of the Polish theatre, passed on four years ago; this book is not a monography, but indeed a monologue – it records His true, vibrant, singular voice; it is a legacy - both passionate and resounding with that particular grace of old Polish eastern borderlands, and it will leave no Reader indifferent to its charm. The same way, no viewer could ever remain indifferent to Hanuszkiewicz’s controversial stagings of Polish plays traditionally regarded as „national sanctities”; these productions inevitably invited scalding and derisive reviews by conservative critics who accused him of direspecting and tarnishing Polish national values. He left the critics squabbling and barking under the table and continued his work regardless: His last production was of „The Wedding” ( „Wesele”, by Stanisław Wyspiański) and it attracted a crowd of 2000 viewers – actively participating in the modernist play - in a tavern near Poznań. He is in Heaven now, without doubt doing His own thing again - for all eternity.
