Tamara de Lempicka (1898–1980) is the world’s most famous Polish female artist. Her paintings are among the best-sellers and are purchased for exorbitant prices at auctions. The queen of art déco was born in a wealthy and powerful family. From early childhood, she was interested in arts, which she frequently observed. The elegant, witty scandaliser created a sensation in Paris with the portraits with bright, vibrant colours, clear shades, and unusual style. At that time, she painted “Tamara in a Green Bugatti”, “Portrait of Ira Perrot”, and the nudes “Andromeda”, and “Woman with Dove”. After she moved to the United States, she painted mostly portraits of Hollywood stars and made a name for herself thanks to her lavish decadent lifestyle. De Lempicka had a soft spot for nudes. A perfect example is “La Belle Rafaëla”, an art déco masterpiece reflecting the model’s sensuality and accentuating her carnality.
