Zbigniew Taranienko’s book is based on his interviews with Tadeusz Dominik  (1928-2014) conducted with the artist in the spring of 2013. The author – an aesthetician, organizer of artistic life in the last decades of 20th century and a well-known art critic – attempts to get to the core of the philosophy underlying Tadeusz Dominik’s art. The eminent painter and a long-time professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts relied in his work on the rules of abstract art which he combined with his unique ability to harmonize colours. Visions of Nature conceived in his mind he tried to transfer onto canvass,  finding in the process that when confronted with the tangibility of painting materials, the vision would undergo a transformation and the end result – the finished painting – never resembled the original in his imagination. His goal had always been – unlike in realist painting - to simplify and generalize. One of the most fascinating threads in the interviews is the author’s persistence to retrace Dominik’s creative process,  to show how he transformed Nature into a sign signifying Nature.
