63 Days of Life and Struggleis a unique publication devoted to the heroes of Poland’s struggle for freedom and for life…
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising we provide readers with an illustrated book, compiled in cooperation with the Warsaw Rising Museum, containing many rarely published photographs from that period.
This unusual photo story brings back those days of fighting for freedom: the joy of the outbreak of the Uprising subdued by the hardships of daily life, the combat heroism of soldiers at the barricades, nurses in field hospitals and ruins of the destroyed city. This is also a picture of everyday life filled with a longing for normality, a substitute of which the inhabitants of Warsaw could find in few theatres, cafes which were still open, and also while listening to the music played on the radio or reading daily newspapers. In the face of death lurking around every corner, there was still time for the joy of weddings and meetings with friends.
The photographs show the great hope and exceptional courage displayed by young insurgents from “Zośka”, „Pięść”, „Gustaw”, „Dzik”, “Golski”, „Harnaś”, „Kiliński”, „Ruczaj”, „Sokół” battalions as well as many other unknown heroes.
The introduction to the atmosphere of the Warsaw Uprising is given by dr Andrzej Krzysztof Kunert, Secretary General of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites.
