The mini-album presents the art by Artur Grottger (1837–1867), who is considered one of the top representatives of romanticism in painting and drawing. In his works, he mostly touched upon historical topics. However, he made a name for himself not through oil paintings or watercolours, but through patriotic series of drawings, which are now considered classics of Polish national art. They were dedicated to independence struggle and war events. By reflecting national myths, they depicted battle scenes, agony, tragedy, sacrifice, suffering, patriotism, and national solidarity. The predominant themes are martyrdom and a female image – a Polish mother and wife – who supports the fight for freedom with heroism and sacrifice.
